THE TECHNICAL COMMITTEE ON CULTURAL HERITAGE<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

European Union<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In 2009, the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage implemented its first initiative \u2013 the compilation of a study of the immovable cultural heritage of Cyprus, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP. The study resulted in the compilation of a list of more than 2,300 cultural heritage sites, the preparation of around 700 inventory charts and the carrying out of 121 technical assessments.
Since 2012, approximately \u20ac24.915 million of European Union funds have been provided by the European Commission to implement the priorities of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, through projects implemented by UNDP. This makes the EU the biggest contributor to the work of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage.<\/p>\n

The first project in support to cultural heritage monuments of great importance for Cyprus was launched in 2012 and implemented by UNDP. Between 2012 and 2024, seven EC funded projects were implemented, while in June 2022, an agreement was signed for 2.5 million Euros, for Phase 8 of the EC funded project for the support to cultural heritage monuments of great importance in Cyprus.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Since 2012 approximately \u20ac 34.5 million has been contributed by several donors, benefiting over 180 cultural heritage sites across Cyprus, to implement the priorities of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage for the preservation of the cultural heritage of Cyprus island-wide.<\/p>\n

In addition to physical conservation of cultural heritage sites, TCCH projects include the preparation of designs for each of the monuments and sites that are under consideration, engaging local communities for the protection and preservation of Cyprus\u2019 cultural heritage and the future maintenance of the completed works and creating a digital archive of monuments.
